Riverview School - Term 3, Week 3, 31 July 2025
School Board of Trustees Election

Tumuaki Talk
Kia ora koutou, Greetings to all parents, whānau, students, and staff.
With this wild weather, I have been reflecting on our kura, the tamariki and the people who work and support us. We are fortunate to have such a positive and proactive group that makes the school such a fantastic place. Despite the poor weather and disruption with carpet laying, everyone continues to show the HEARTWISE Values. Well done, and thank you to everyone.
Carpet Installation: Our carpet replacement hit a slight roadblock this week, with the newest carpets previously laid in Rooms 1 – 4 being permanently glued. The carpet team have worked tirelessly to lift the carpet with a sledgehammer/chisel, and then grind the surface to a usable base. We apologise for these unforeseen delays, and commend the tamariki and teachers for their tolerance. So far, we have had new carpet tiles installed in Rooms 18, 17, 16, 15, 5, 6 and almost Rooms 4,3,2 and 1.
Kapa Haka: The senior children have been trialling to be in the Kapa haka Rōpū. The successful tamariki will have information and permission to come home this afternoon. Please ensure this is returned asap.
Whānau/Parent and tamariki learning night: We are currently planning another night of interactive learning activities for our community. Last term, we held a mathematics night. This term, we will be holding an evening all about Literacy. We have planned to keep the session in the hall later in the term; however, we will need to wait until all the carpet laying has been completed, as the hall is being used to house classrooms at the moment.
Quiz Night: Please see the information later in the newsletter. The tickets are up for sale. This looks to be a great night of fun and laughter. We are also hoping to stream the All Blacks on the big screen.
Late Arrivals: If your child is late, please ensure they come to the office to sign in. If they are not signed in, and marked absent, the school is not notified that they are here, which can cause panic when a text is sent home asking where your child is. The first 15 minutes is an essential time for the children to settle for the day, and 15 minutes daily add up to a lot of missed learning.
Early Pick-up: If you collect your child early, and they won't catch the bus, please sign them out and let the office know, so we are aware that they are not on the bus. A lot of time is spent looking for children who are supposed to catch the bus, and have been collected, without anyone letting us know. When we are searching for children and calling parents, we delay the buses as they don’t leave until we give them the all clear.
Rooms 5 and 6 Concrete Work: We have been talking with our new Project Manager from Rubix, and are looking to have the concrete, seating and garden area removed and reinstated during the following holidays. There is a possibility that we will need to remove three trees; however, we will ensure that any greenery removed will be replanted around the school.
PTA Meeting: Following a meeting with prospective and interested people. We have planned a PTA meeting to elect the Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary officially. We are planning to have a meeting in the next few weeks.
Quiz Night Tickets are ON SALE
Our big night of fun, facts, and fancy dress is happening on Saturday, 6 September. This is an adults-only event. Your ticket is for a table of up to 10 people to enjoy a night of quizzing, fun games, prizes and great company. There will be beer, wine and platters of food for sale as well as non-alcoholic drinks. A platter of food is included with your ticket. Tickets are $120 per table and are available from the school office or via Kindo.
Can't attend the event but keen to contribute? We need prizes. If you or a local business can donate a prize, we'd be super grateful. We need prizes that can be given to individuals for best dressed, best answer, as well as for winning games between quiz rounds.
We will also be having a Bottle-Tom-Bowler event so we need heaps of bottles - anything and everything as long as it is in a bottle - vinegar, glue, whiskey, tomato sauce, shampoo, O.J, chocolate sauce, drink bottle, car oil, bubble bath, etc... Please donate new, bottles of non-perishable products to the school office.
This week's clue to help you on the night.... Do you know the name of a number that is a 1 followed by 100 zeroes?

Term Three - Overview

Policies and Procedures

The school works with SchoolDocs to maintain, update, and review our policies. SchoolDocs provides us with a comprehensive core set of policies, which have been well researched and follow the Ministry of Education National Administration Guidelines. The policies and procedures are tailored to our school, and the school supplies specific information such as our charter, and procedures for behaviour management, reporting to parents, etc.
SchoolDocs updates, modifies, or creates policies in response to changes in legislation or Ministry guidelines, significant events, reviews/requests from schools, and regular reviewing from the SchoolDocs team. Our Board of Trustees has the opportunity to view changes/additions and comment on them before they are implemented. We will advise you when policies are up for review and how you can take part in the review.
