Kia ora koutou, Greetings to all parents, whānau, students, and staff
As we wrap up Term 3, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our parents, caregivers, whānau, tamariki, and staff. Your ongoing support and commitment continue to make our school the best it can be.
We hope you enjoy a safe and restful two-week break with your children. It’s a great time to recharge and reflect. Please take a moment to remind our tamariki of our HEARTWISE Values; they are the foundation of our school culture and guide us in everything we do.
Looking ahead, Term 4 is shaping up to be another busy and exciting term, full of learning opportunities and engaging activities. Please keep an eye on the calendar, as well as the newsletter, for the full list of activities and events.
A quick reminder: During the school holidays, the school grounds will be closed to the public due to several important projects underway. These include:
A new classroom is being built.
Concrete work around the school.
Upgrades are being made to the concrete at the front of the hall.
We appreciate your understanding and co-operation as we work to improve our facilities for the benefit of all.
Congratulations to our outstanding Speech Finalists:
On Tuesday evening, we had Nia Trass, Koby Kitchingman (Year 5's), and Harlow Stott, Te Ahumainuku Stephenson (Year 6's) represent Riverview School at the Kerikeri Rotary Inter-School Speech finals. They were all absolutely outstanding and made the staff and parents there very proud.
We were thrilled to see Koby win first place and Nia second place in the Year Fives, and Harlow win first place in the Year Six category. A special mention to Te Ahumainuku, who performed an outstanding speech in both English and Te Reo - absolutely brilliant.
Board of Trustees:
As you will have seen, the board elections have been completed. We want to say a huge thank you to all the candidates. Congratulations to Bekki Mills, Casey-Lee Perrin, Jancy Stott, Lewis Wallace, and Rob Haden; as well as Wopkje Pekel-Gripstra, who is the Staff Representative. Thank you to all those who were nominated. We appreciate the support.
NED SHOW:
Thanks to everyone who supported the NED Show by purchasing a yoyo. Hopefully, these will provide hours of holiday time fun and tricks. While the school does not make any money from these sales, the funds collected are used to fund future shows around NZ to educate and entertain students while sharing the important messages about Never Giving Up, Encouraging Others and Doing Your Best. Our students enjoyed the show, and sales of yoyos ensure that others will too. If your child lost the info sheet about their yoyo, there are spares at the office.
Ice Skating:
Many parents have already paid $16.00 for 2 ice skating lessons. These events will take place in week 4 of next term. Payments can be made online via Kindo, internet banking 12-3091-0132140-00 (reference surname) or at the office. Year 4 students are not being asked to pay for these lessons because they are allocated their share of the funds raised in the How Far Will Lola Go? event in term 1.

Term Four - Overview
Ice Skating
Ice Skating is Coming to Riverview School
Over Labour Weekend our school hall will be transformed into an ice-skating paradise as we have a state of the art artificial ice rink surrounded by inflatable boarding set up for us to enjoy. We will also have 100 pairs of skates of various sizes, gloves, helmets and instructors available to show us how to tear up the ‘ice’.
We have chosen this activity as it is something that is not usually available in Kerikeri, is something that almost everyone can have a go at and experience some success, and it’s loads of fun.
The organisers can provide up to two 45-minute lessons per student. This instruction includes fitting the gear, how to balance, how to skate, how to fall safely, and how to stop.
This is an amazing opportunity but it does come at a cost of $16.00 per student for the 2 lessons during school hours. We have been mindful of this upcoming event and have made sure that we have not asked for payment for trips and other school activities that impact on finances. As there is a cost, this will be optional.
This letter is being sent home early so that you can plan your finances and consider if this is an activity that you are keen for your child to participate in.
There will also be a Disco Skate Night for families on Wednesday 29th October. More information will come out closer to the time.
