Tumuaki Talk
Kia ora koutou, Greetings to all parents, whānau, students, and staff.
We are moving quickly toward the last week of the term (next week) and have a hectic week ahead. On Monday, our Year 6 tamariki are off to camp at Marsden Point and Year 5's are having their Education Outside the Class Week. Thank you to all the teachers and parents who have made these happen.
PTA - Parent Teacher Association AGM: This is being held on Tuesday 6 May in the staffroom. Everyone is welcome, there will be food and nibbles. Thank you to the PTA for the last 12 months; we have seen some exciting initiatives and activities. We have been advised that several positions on the PTA will become available, as current members are stepping down. We thank them for the support they have shown. An info sheet on what a PTA is HERE for anyone interested in supporting the school.
Board Elections: All schools in NZ hold elections for the Board of Trustees every three years. This group is elected to help govern the school. If you are interested in being nominated for the Board, please do not hesitate to contact me or current BOT Members. For further information, you can look HERE.
Staffing Update: Miss Gilmore (in Room 4) will be on maternity leave next term. We will welcome Mrs Elle Haden, who will be in Room 4, and the Year Two Team Leader to the team. We are also sad to say farewell to Karensa from the office at the end of May. We are currently seeking a replacement and will interview early next week.
Police Vetting / Child Protection: We are pleased to say that we have a substantial number of police-vetted parents/caregivers. However, we need more, as we have sometimes struggled to have sufficient recently vetted helpers. We must cancel a trip if we cannot get enough vetted volunteers.
Next week, the final week, we will send a short newsletter home with upcoming dates and information for next term.
Riverview School Attendance - Term 1

Above is an illustration of attendance at Riverview School. This illustrates all absences from school, including illness and holidays.
In our mid-year progress report, attendance will be highlighted with this image, to make it clear to all whānau where their child is sitting regarding regular school attendance.
We understand that getting children to school can be difficult at times. Please call us, and we can work together to overcome any obstacles or challenges that may be in the way.
Term Two Learning and Events:
Focus Concept: Discovery. (Each Term we will have learning and focus relating to the concept of 'Discovery'.

Environmental Concepts: Living Landscapes.

Math-a-thon: We will be holding a Math-a-thon next term. This will not be to raise any funds, rather weekly challenges for tamariki, with whānau to engage in maths learning.

New Zealand Traveller Declaration
Going overseas for the school holidays? Everyone travelling into New Zealand must complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration, including returning New Zealand passport holders.
Its FREE and you can do it on the online form or on the NZTD app.
If you’re travelling as a family or group and completing multiple declarations, the NZTD app allows you to copy your travel details into another declaration, making it easier to complete multiple declarations for the same journey. The submitted declarations are then all easy to see within the app.
The New Zealand Traveller Declaration collects travel, customs, immigration and biosecurity information and aims to improve the safety and security of New Zealand. It replaces the paper card you used to fill out on the plane.
To make your arrival easier, do your digital declaration before your flight back to New Zealand.
Head to travellerdeclaration.govt.nz today!
